Private lessons are available for ages 4 and up.  All lessons are instructed by one of our qualified swim lesson instructors.  Private swim lessons include four 30 minute classes of one-on-one personalized instruction. Private/Semi-Private Swim Lesson Policies: Please make sure to arrive to your swim lesson on time, dressed in a swimsuit and ready to begin at the scheduled start time.  The lessons will end at the regularly scheduled time, regardless of whether the swimmer was late getting started. We are proud to be an authorized provider of the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program for ages 6 months and up.  Swimming lessons are an essential part of a persons education.  Being able to swim properly increases confidence which makes time in the water an enjoyable and safe experience. Children are taught to be safe in, on, and around water as part of any Red Cross Learn to Swim program.  In addition, swimming is a healthy, total fitness activity that lasts a lifetime.  Our Learn-To-Swim programs are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors with an enthusiasm and dedication to helping children and adults achieve their swimming goals.*Please reference the swim level descriptions below to choose the appropriate level based on their skills.  If you have taken swim lessons with us before recently and do not know what level to register for please call the office we have records of your child's progress 860-291-7160.SWIM LESSON LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS PARENT & CHILDOpen to children ages 6 months to 3 years (with parent). Parents and children participate in guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills including bubble blowing, front/back kicking, front/back floating, underwater exploration and more. PRESCHOOL Open to children ages 4 & 5.Children independently participate in guided practice sessions that help them develop basic aquatic skills such as bubble blowing, front and back kicking, as well as floating. Children are introduced to safety topics and how to be safe in and around water.LEVEL 1 Introduction to Water Skills: Open to children ages 6 & up. Learn basic personal water safety information and skills to help participants feel comfortable in the water. At this level, basic aquatic skills are taught including front/back floats, kicking actions, gliding, bobs and more. LEVEL 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills: Teaching of fundamental skills that will be used throughout the Learn to Swim program. Swimmers will learn to float without support, and will begin to move through the water independently. LEVEL 3 Stroke Development: Build on previously learned skills taught by providing additional guided practice. Begin to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke on their own. LEVEL 4 Stroke Development: Develop swimmers confidence in the strokes learned thus far and improve other aquatic skills. Swimmers continue to learn new strokes: side-stroke, back-crawl, and will start to develop the breast- stroke and butterfly and the basics of turning at the wall are explored. LEVEL 5 Stroke Refinement: Coordination & refinement of strokes. Refine performance of all the strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke), flip turns, increase endurance & distances. LEVEL 6 Swimming & Skill Proficiency: Refine strokes so participants can swim with greater ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM    Special Olympics - Winter Basketball 2026
The East Hartford Parks & Recreation Department takes great pride in partnering with Special Olympics CT to provide opportunities for special needs athletes to engage in athletic programs where athletes are able to participate in weekly practices and showcase their skills and abilities in state competitions, all while developing friendships and memories. Our highly experiences staff are devoted to working with each programs athletes in providing a positive environment and encouraging our athletes to strive to do their best. The Parks & Recreation Department offers Special Olympics programs throughout the year with various competitive activities.

This in-person course prepares youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities videos and discussions to develop essential real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers feeding diapering picking up and holding children safety and emergency response.  Participants receive a 10-year Babysitter's Training certificate upon completion.  An American Red Cross certificate will be e-mailed upon completion. Class DOES NOT include CPR. Babysitters will receive a Babysitting certificate that includes Standard First Aid.  Open to both residents and non-residents. The Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball program accepts all East Hartford children who register for the program by the deadline. Registration after the deadline is accepted only if space is available. All players must attend a player evaluation before being placed on a team. Evaluations are December 1 - 3. Registered players will receive an email reminder for evaluations. No refunds are permitted following evaluations. 1-2 weeks following evaluations, a coach will contact the parent/guardian to provide team information. When placed on a team, the coach will notify players of which weekday night practice will be during the season. As well as being given a game schedule. The season starts in early January. The season runs from January to March Registration Deadline: November 30Fee increases $5.00 for registrations accepted after the deadline

From bowling and the movies to bingo and dances, there's something for everyone. Our experienced staff will provide a night of supervision and activities in addition to facilitating group interaction and fostering positive behaviors. Staff are trained in the field of special education and are able to provide necessary skills to facilitate the program.
